Sassari journalist Emanuela Pala , a correspondent for La7's Piazzapulita program , was arrested along with other activists and crew members of the Global Sumud Flotilla . The 38-year-old Sardinian reporter, along with over four hundred activists, was handed over to the Israeli police and transferred to the large Ketziot detention center in the Negev Desert .

Pala's journey began in Catania, where the flotilla set sail to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. But the vessel was intercepted and boarded by the Israeli navy before reaching the shores of the Strip.

Pala and other members of the mission are now being held as illegal immigrants: among them are about forty Italians. As has been the case in the past with other boats headed for Gaza, in order to be repatriated, they will be required to sign a self-declaration admitting their illegal entry into Israel. Anyone who refuses risks prosecution.

The journalist was documenting the journey of the flotilla, made up of activists, doctors, and volunteers from various countries, step by step. On her social media accounts, she recounted the moments of the crossing until they were stopped by the Israeli army. Since then, however, silence has fallen.
