Thirty-five years at Brotzu. Now, the children's doctor and director of Pediatrics at Arnas, Giuseppa Masnata, is retiring at 68. The decision dates back to recent months.
«It's been 35 years since I started working in this hospital.
During this time, I have been fortunate to meet and work alongside so many extraordinary people: healthcare workers, nurses, administrators, technicians, and medical colleagues who, every day, have put their expertise, passion, and humanity at the service of children and their families,” she wrote in June, sharing her thoughts on social media.
The doctor extended "a sincere thank you to the parents who entrusted their children to us, allowing us to accompany them through the most delicate moments of their lives. We have learned much more from them than we were able to share.
A special thought goes to all the children we have cared for over the years and to those who, despite every effort, have not been able to overcome their illness. They are the ones who have given profound meaning to our work."
Of these 35 years, Masnata wrote, "I carry with me above all the faces, the stories, the emotions, and the people I met along the way. Thanks to everyone who was a part of it. The rest matters little."

Now it's official. Masnata announces: "Today, November 1st, my hospital stay at Arnas Brotzu in Cagliari concludes , and a new phase of my life begins. I leave the hospital with a sense of emotion and immense gratitude towards my colleagues, the young patients, and their families, with whom I have shared so many years of work and life."

Retirement, however, isn't a point of arrival, "but rather an opportunity to devote myself more freely to what continues to fascinate me: clinical work, research, and commitment to children's health and rights, in Sardinia and beyond. The routes may change, but not the direction."
