Experience, local knowledge, and a long history in the police force: Giacinto Ettore Mattera returns to Nuoro as the new Deputy Chief of Police for Commissioner Fortunato Marazzita . The Chief of Police assumed his new role yesterday after gaining experience at the Oristano Police Headquarters , where he held the same role for the past two and a half years. He brings to the capital of the Barbagia region a wealth of experience built over a thirty-year career spanning Sardinia, Lombardy, Liguria, and international missions.
For Mattera, this is a return to a city he already knows: from 2018 to 2020, he led the Nuoro Highway Patrol Section , a position he assumed after his promotion to Chief of Staff. Having joined the police force in 1987, after training at the Scuola Superiore di Roma, he was assigned to the Milan Police Headquarters in 1992, where he worked in various offices across the city, including patrol cars and police stations. In 1995, he transferred to Sardinia to work for the 13th Mobile Unit in Cagliari, before moving to the Sardinian capital's Police Headquarters in 2000 as a Cabinet Officer. His resume also includes experience abroad: in 2001, he took part in an Italian Joint Police Mission in Albania. Upon returning to Cagliari, he headed the Immigration Office and then the Quartu Sant'Elena Police Station. In 2014, he was appointed Director of the Sassari Highway Police, and in 2020, he was transferred to Liguria to head the Genoa Highway Police. In January 2022, he returned to Sardinia, to the Cagliari Police Headquarters, as Director of the Administrative, Social, and Immigration Police. From January 2024, he served as Deputy Chief of Police in Oristano, until his new appointment, made official yesterday in Nuoro.
