Committees, citizens, healthcare workers, municipal, provincial, and regional administrators participated this morning in yet another day of action for a seemingly never-ending dispute. The question remains the same: what will be the future of healthcare in Guilcier, Barigadu, and Montiferru? This is especially true after rumors swirled about further cuts to basic services, outpatient specialist care, radiology, and laboratory analysis. During a busy morning of discussions, tensions were not lacking, such as the one involving the mayor of Paulilatino and provincial councilor responsible for health, Domenico Gallus.

"I decided to leave the meeting," he explained, "because I was prevented from concluding my remarks. I note that the regional councilors present were unable to explain to us what they have accomplished in the past two and a half years and what actions they intend to pursue until the end of their mandate." With Maria Grazia Cattina, director of the Oristano Local Health Authority, absent, the regional councilors were repeatedly called into question. Councilor Peppino Canu, after admitting that "the situation remains dramatic, but on the primary care front, the Region has launched an extraordinary recruitment plan with the arrival of 700 new doctors in the first months of 2027, of which approximately 60 will be assigned to the Oristano Local Health Authority."

Councilor Alessandro Solinas reeled off numbers and interventions. "No one has a magic wand," he said, "but we're working to improve things. In the last budget, we allocated one billion euros." Councilor Salvatore Cau added that, as mayor of Neoneli for 16 years, he knows the situation well. "I guarantee we're working hard and putting our face forward to improve things. We'd like to be judged at the end of our term." Councilor Antonio Solinas emphasized the need to counter the rumors circulating in the area . "We must prove with facts that Delogu Hospital is closed. A citizen of Busachi called me to ask if it was true that it was no longer functioning."

Opening the debate, coordinated by Silvio Manca and Filomena Deriu of the local civic committee, was Ghilarza Mayor Eugenia Usai, president of the mayors of the Ghilarza-Bosa health and social care district, who announced "the urgent convening of the Conference to review the implementation status of the regional resolution of July 15th and analyze the health services network. We will also invite President Todde."

Further reminders of the daily reality came from the presidents of the Guilcier Unions, Salvatore Pes, and Barigadu Unions, Giampaolo Loi, and the mayors of Bonarcado, Annalisa Mele, Norbello, Matteo Manca, and Tadasuni, Pierpaolo Pisu: "Shortage of specialists, ambulances without doctors on board, elevators out of order for weeks, services not clearly communicated to local administrations." And starting with the many critical issues, such as the refusal of young doctors to hold positions in peripheral offices, the mayors proposed financial and housing incentives for doctors in marginalized areas, models of municipal reception coordinated between the Unions of Municipalities and the Region, collaboration with the Third Sector to ensure the presence of personnel in the PPPs and 118, stricter constraints on public competitions, and the reinstatement of retired professionals to cover the most vulnerable services. It was a busy day, marked by concerns, demands for immediate responses, and the awareness that the local healthcare crisis is still far from being resolved. The mobilization continues.
