Hours of waiting and possible maneuvers to try to mend the pieces in Ghilarza, after the clear split within the majority group occurred in the chamber the other evening .

The budget adjustment did not pass after two councilors, Renato Giovannetti and Giuseppe Fadda, voted against the financial document along with the opposition, and Bastiano Caddeo (also from the majority) abstained.

A very difficult decision with less than a year to go until the end of the administration led by Stefano Licheri. A decision that weighs heavily, especially now: not having approved the budget adjustment and no longer having the resources to govern means losing something like €300,000 in one fell swoop and forgoing long-overdue projects. The mayor has no doubts about this and, hoping to salvage what can be salvaged so as not to lose these funds, is waiting a few more days before resigning. "Either we find an immediate solution to guarantee the resources, or I will resign, and it will be irrevocable," says Licheri.

And the mayor, in recent days, had discussed possibly resigning and then recruiting other councilors, candidates formerly with the majority, as a possible solution to overcome the critical moment. "We have €100,000 from the Region for projects, sums that had to be committed by August 5th. This is significant money because nowadays, to participate in tenders, you need at least a technical feasibility study, and these resources were needed for this: the Municipality itself couldn't afford it," Licheri explains. "The same goes for the €142,000 from the LAG, which, if not committed immediately, we will lose. They were needed to build the playground at the play center and to renovate the one at Su Cantaru with new play equipment and rubber mats, which would also have saved on maintenance. The Municipality can't afford to spend this amount on these projects." Then there were important changes in the settlement: an additional €130,000 from the single fund which, among other things, would have been used to allocate contributions for associations and to resolve a technical problem at the padel courts, where work has begun but will now be unblocked. That's why I say we need to try to get out of this situation so as not to lose the resources. Then we can all go home early."

Those who have undermined the majority are almost silent. Giovannetti doesn't answer the phone; Fadda simply says, "We're working to find a solution."

The minority group remains outside. Group leader Eugenia Usai commented: "At the last Council meeting, we acknowledged the clear rift within the majority group, and now we await developments, especially given that if things remain as they are, the dissolution of the City Council will be inevitable." The ruling group had been fractious in the council chamber for some time. In recent months, the new waste regulation, a service managed by the Union of Municipalities of Guilcier, has caused significant discontent.

The Municipality of Ghilarza's request to waive the TARI (albeit at a reduced rate of 10 percent) in the nine-meter districts, where waste collection services are effectively denied, was rejected by the Union of Municipalities. Equally upsetting was the failure of the Union of Municipalities to accept the proposal to waive the TARI tax on university students, given that they already pay the tax in their hometown. It will now be necessary to determine in the coming hours whether the majority's situation can be resolved in any way. Otherwise, the City Council will be dissolved early.
