Electoral campaign amid tensions and controversies in Genoni, where a list of aspiring city councilors was presented led by Benedetto Roccotelli, a 33-year-old from Cagliari who challenges the outgoing mayor Gianluca Serra. The son of the former Cagliari player is also running for councilor in Monserrato. A few months ago he was on the list with the Brothers of Italy in the administrative elections of Assemini.

In Genoni he leads a group made up mainly of career soldiers. Many in the small town of Giara, after reading the list of candidates, thought it was a mistake, but that wasn't the case. And in fact for days the story has been fueling debates and controversies, particularly on social media.

The presence of a list made up of unknown people is controversial. «I have been frequenting Genoni and the area for a long time – he says – I am convinced that I can make my contribution for the good of the country. I have some skills that could come in handy."

The outgoing mayor Gianluca Serra, who is presenting himself for his second term, is still in disbelief: «I read their names for the first time. I know that similar events have also affected other Italian regions. They did everything respecting the law, but I find all this really disrespectful towards citizens and voters."
