The hope of a new life made possible by the generosity of two women. At the Duilio Casula Polyclinic in Monserrato, two multi-organ donations were performed, giving a new future to several patients awaiting transplants. The donors, two Sardinian women aged 48 and 66, performed an act of extraordinary humanity. In one of the two cases, the desire to donate had been expressed during their lifetime, allowing the entire process to begin promptly.
"We thank the donors and their families for this extraordinary gesture of generosity," emphasized Dr. Marcello Saba, transplant coordinator at the University Hospital of Cagliari , "and all the professionals involved who ensured every stage of the donation process with dedication and professionalism, in line with the Hospital's commitment to organ and tissue donation."
Sardinia , continues Marcello Saba, «is among the most generous regions in Italy , because the approval rates are always higher than the national average. In 2025, 103 donors were registered and 70 transplants were performed in total».
Getting informed is crucial to raising awareness on this issue. There are several ways to give your consent during your lifetime and become an organ and tissue donor , Saba concludes. "You can sign a specific form at your local health authority (ASL), your general practitioner, or your municipality when you obtain or renew your identity card. However, you can also do so independently, by writing a declaration on a piece of paper, including the date and signature. Furthermore, you can also express your wish online by completing the AIDO form on the website or the AIDO app."
