The general strike against the genocide, called by the USB in solidarity with the Palestinian people and the Global Sumud Flotilla, is growing in popularity. "Let's block everything with Palestine in our hearts" is the slogan that will animate dozens of squares across Italy, starting in Rome, Milan, and Naples.
The protests also reached Cagliari, Sassari, but also Nuoro, Iglesias, Siniscola, Olbia, and Ozieri. In Sardinia, the social media buzz grew as the hours passed, and the protests could affect transportation, schools, and public offices.
The largest demonstration is expected in the capital. The meeting point is at 9:30 a.m. in Piazza del Carmine, and the procession is scheduled to depart from there after 10:00 a.m.
The protesters will then move along Via Sassari, Via Mameli, Piazza Yenne, Via Manno, Piazza Costituzione, and Viale Regina Margherita, before heading down to the regional council building.
The initiative is also "against war and for peace, against the enormous increase in military spending."
The other Sardinian squares are:
- Sassari 10:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Piazza d'Italia
- Nuoro 3:30 pm Town Hall
- Iglesias 6 pm Piazza Sella
- Siniscola 8:30 a.m., Via Carlo Alberto dalla Chiesa
- Olbia 10am Piazza Crispi
- Ozieri 9:30 a.m. Piazza Garibaldi
