The CGIL (Italian General Confederation of Public Functions) confirms the Gallura healthcare sector's strike following today's meeting with Regional President (and Health Councilor) Alessandra Todde. Local secretaries Paolo Dettori, Jessica Cardia, and Danilo Deiana (CGIL Gallura) signed a statement announcing the staff meetings of the Olbia Local Health Authority (ASL). The union leaders explained: "Today in Olbia, as part of the Social and Health Conference, we finally had the opportunity to speak before President Alessandra Todde, who until now had avoided discussions with the social partners. We challenged her (Jessica Cardia speaking on behalf of FP CGIL Nord Sardegna and CGIL Gallura) on all the breaches covered by the dispute-reduction procedure , which we concluded negatively and which will lead to the strike being called. We highlighted the following issues: the possible closure of acute care beds as a consequence of the opening of community hospitals; a complete lack of dialogue despite numerous requests for a meeting; Inertia of the Regional Council and the entire majority regarding the serious decline of healthcare in Gallura and Northern Sardinia; lack of new and updated corporate documents defining the mission of the health authorities and the Olbia Local Health Authority. President Alessandra Todde responded conciliatorily, saying she would meet with us at the local level and that community beds would not replace acute care beds. We are responding to the President now, since she spoke last and there was an opportunity for a reply. Mathematics is not an opinion; we are curious to see how she will implement the assurances given.
Regional President Alessandra Todde ruled out the diversion of resources ( doctors and nurses ) to open community hospitals in Olbia, Tempio, and La Maddalena. Todde also announced that Mater Olbia will be asked to strengthen its services for cancer patients.
Gianni Addis, president of the Gallura Regional Health and Social Care Conference, stated: "Alessandra Todde's presence gave this meeting an extremely significant significance , as it allowed the mayors to present the current healthcare situation to the highest regional authority, characterized by the critical issues we are all too familiar with. But this day marks the beginning of a new era, with new intentions to broaden the mayors' participation, particularly in drafting the new Corporate Act. This will allow us to represent the needs of our region and the services related to the functioning not only of hospitals but of community healthcare. Everything suggests that a fair discussion is about to begin, based on direct dialogue with the General Management, aimed at providing adequate responses to citizens' health needs."
