The dire state of Gallura's healthcare system will be the focus of a meeting convened in Cagliari by Regional President Alessandra Todde . On May 14, at the headquarters of the Regional Health Department, Todde will meet with representatives of trade unions , particularly all the confederal unions and several independent unions.
The call comes after a long period of tension and fierce protests by the CGIL Fp and Uil Fp. The two confederal unions have announced several days of strike action in the coming weeks . Union representatives representing healthcare workers at the Olbia Local Health Authority (ASL) consider certain decisions by the public health agency's management unacceptable . One of the issues at stake is the opening of "community hospital" units within the hospitals of Olbia, Tempio, La Maddalena, and Ozieri. According to the CGIL and UIL, this move would be detrimental to existing and guaranteed services for acute patients.
Another dramatic issue on the table is the condition of the Emergency Room at the Giovanni Paolo II Hospital in Olbia, a department that averages over 200 admissions per day during the summer and which, starting in early July, will be staffed by only three specialists.
