Settimo Nizzi, in his capacity as provincial president, will lead the Olbia Local Health Authority's social and health conference, as required by law. This announcement was made this morning at the end of the mayors' conference, which was largely dedicated to the address by Director General Antonio Irione. The president will be joined by the mayor of Tempio, Gianna Masu (since he is the president of the other provincial capital, Olbia), and three representatives of the two districts that have yet to be determined.
For nearly two hours, the meeting was devoted to the summer review (with its usual emergencies) and the measures the Local Health Authority plans to implement to address the main problems, starting with the interminable waiting lists. These measures include increased staffing and a revised management of the CUP.
The numbers painted a picture of the summer emergency: 20,000 emergency room visits to the Olbia Local Health Authority (ASL) from June to August placed the hospital first in Sardinia, and Olbia, with its 13,000 patients, is the second-largest hospital in Sardinia (though understaffed). Among the critical issues reported were the dramatic shortages in the Psychiatry and Pediatrics departments. Over 200 new hires are expected by the end of the year.
