Gallura: A wind turbine appears at the farmhouse: "No one warned us, but we won't allow it."
Sesto Natoli, a manager and writer, and his partner learned that a wind turbine will be installed on their land: "We're saying no and appealing to the authorities."Sesto Santoli , 42, a manager with a degree in Philosophy and a master's degree from Bocconi University, lives and works between Milan and Sant'Antonio di Gallura. He has written three novels and also formed a team of researchers developing the T9 code for cell phones in the Gallurese language.
In recent days he learned, almost by chance, that a portion of the land (an estate of about 40 hectares) of his partner's agritourism business has been chosen for the installation of a wind turbine of almost 200 meters from the Trynyty project .
Santoli, like other private individuals who work and live in the beautiful countryside between Sant'Antonio and Calangianus, was never notified or consulted about the project, which, it should be noted immediately, is facing staunch opposition from mayors Carlo Viti and Fabio Albieri. The manager says: "Mine is an act of private opposition and a contribution to the public debate on the fate of the territory of Sant'Antonio di Gallura and Calangianus, of Gallura and Sardinia . I own, live, and work in one of the areas involved in the 'Sughere e Granito' wind farm project. My daughter is raising the same land and in the stable that sits on it, and my partner, who has set up a farm there, works there as a business. I therefore feel a duty to transform an individual choice into an ethical and public position: as long as I am in charge of it, this land will not host infrastructure that would distort its essence. This is a promise to those who have cared for it for generations before me and to those to come."
Santoli launched an appeal to the institutions: "To consider Sardinia as a mere 'empty surface' to be filled with energy hardware is a mistake in perspective: it is confusing Value (historical, identity-related, ecological) with the price of energy produced. From an economic standpoint, an investment that destroys social and landscape fixed capital for short-term returns is, technically, poor asset management. I am appealing to the institutions , both those who have already fully understood the impact of this speculation, such as the municipalities of Sant'Antonio di Gallura and Calangianus with their mayors Carlo Viti and Fabio Albieri, and those from whom I expressly and publicly ask for a clear position, such as the Sardinian Region and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. Sardinia is not a set to be decorated, where, against the will of the people, energy extraction systems can be installed as an end in themselves, but a living system made up of people and territories. My commitment not to grant land for these installations is an act of consistency with this principle."
