The investigation into the death of Gaia Costa, the 24-year-old from Tempio Pausania who was hit on July 8th while crossing the street at the pedestrian crossing on Via Aga Khan in Porto Cervo during a break from babysitting, has been closed.

The young woman was struck by an SUV driven by German manager Vivian Spohr, wife of Carsten Spohr, CEO of Lufthansa, who was on family vacation in Costa Smeralda. Spohr, represented by lawyers Alessandro Vitale and Angelo Merlini, is being investigated for vehicular homicide. Technical tests on both the manager's cell phone and the car she was driving, ordered by the Tempio Pausania Public Prosecutor's Office investigating the incident and by prosecutor Milena Aucone, have been completed.

According to the reconstruction of what happened that late July morning, she was hit while crossing a pedestrian crossing around 1 p.m. According to the expert witness Marco Antonio Pes, the sudden restart of the SUV, just when the young woman was in front of the car, "is most likely due to a serious and prolonged distraction on the part of the driver, who did not realize what was happening to her right, limiting herself to checking whether the advance of the vehicle in front had created enough space to be able to continue driving."

According to the investigation, the cause of the accident was the driver's distraction, although she was not using her phone while driving, as initially suspected. Furthermore, it is unlikely that the accident was related to a vehicle malfunction or other external causes. The report emphasizes that the driver had "full visibility of the pedestrian's transit area."

Video surveillance footage, acquired immediately after the accident by the Porto Cervo Carabinieri, allowed them to reconstruct the sequence of events that preceded the impact between the SUV and the 24-year-old woman. The victim's family, represented by lawyer Antonello Desini, also appointed expert witnesses, engineer Gian Luca Langiu and Dr. Gian Luca Lombardi, who collaborated with the experts appointed by the Prosecutor's Office to reconstruct every phase of the collision.
