The new ATR 465 train, produced by CAF and purchased by the Sardinia Region, tested its runs on the Cagliari-Olbia and return line during the night between 9 and 10 July.
«The activities – as stated in a note – allowed us to verify the safety, reliability and technical performance of the convoy along the entire route, carried out without intermediate stops and in the absence of other rail traffic in 2 hours and 15 minutes, with a maximum speed of 150 km/h» .
The actual travel times of the service, however, will not be those obtained in this testing phase, but will derive from the operating program.
The operation of tilting trains is one of several areas of joint work by the Region and RFI to upgrade Sardinia's railway infrastructure. Thanks to these improvements, trains can negotiate curves at speeds up to 20% faster than traditional trains, maintaining high levels of comfort and safety and contributing to reduced travel times.
The intervention on the Sardinian railway network was carried out with regional funding as part of an agreement with RFI, and involved infrastructure investments of over 50 million euros .
The authorization process will conclude with a further testing campaign in September and the process will continue in the following months.
