Anti-Zionist protests erupted this morning at Elmas Airport, where four direct flights from Tel Aviv are scheduled to arrive between morning and early afternoon. The protesters, numbering about fifteen in total, suspect that the planes are carrying Israeli soldiers accompanied by their families for a vacation in Sardinia. The presence of soldiers involved in operations in Gaza and now in southern Lebanon, both of which have resulted in high civilian casualties and widespread destruction of infrastructure, is controversial.

Positioned with Palestinian banners and flags in the arrivals area, protesters welcomed travelers by chanting for Palestinian freedom, comparing Zionism to Nazism, and calling for a “stop to the genocide.”

It was impossible to distinguish the travelers coming from Tel Aviv from those arriving from other locations: several passengers sympathized with the protesters.

The state police deployed a large force, with numerous uniformed officers and just as many in civilian clothes monitoring the demonstration, identifying participants, filming, and ensuring the protests did not disrupt the airport's smooth operation.
