Four awards were given to four Carabinieri officers who saved lives in Cagliari and Quartu Sant'Elena.
The four simple commendations were presented this morning by Brigadier General Luigi Grasso , Provincial Commander of the Carabinieri of Cagliari, during his visit to the Quartu Sant'Elena Company and the temporary station of Flumini.
The first three awards are linked to a delicate intervention that took place in Quartu Sant'Elena in October 2024 , when a young minor, suffering from a deep depressive crisis, threatened to jump from the balcony of her home. The coordinated action of the military helped avert the tragedy, and in particular, Deputy Brigadier Francesco Donatelli, from the Quartu Sant'Elena Operations Center, managed the initial tense moments by establishing an empathetic dialogue with the young woman and keeping her on the phone with extreme humanity until help arrived. Meanwhile, Chief Warrant Officer Stefano Pais and Selected Constable Daniel Pezzulo intervened on the scene and, thanks to their firm determination and patient persuasion, managed to convince the girl to desist from her insane act.
The fourth commendation was awarded to Corporal Marcello Sebis, then attached to the Cagliari Mobile Radio Section, for an equally critical intervention in August 2023 in the capital. On that occasion, Sebis intervened to help a man who, after dousing himself with gasoline, was threatening to set himself on fire. Through prolonged and effective mediation, the soldier managed to gain the man's trust, convincing him to abort the suicidal attack.
During the ceremony, General Grasso praised the example set by the awarded soldiers, emphasizing how their work, in addition to earning public acclaim, has increased the prestige of the institution, embodying the values of generous altruism and closeness to citizens that have always distinguished the Carabinieri.
