The Sassari Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation for tax evasion against the former regional councilor and former mayor of Buddusò, Giovanni Satta . The Guardia di Finanza's checks concern Satta's individual company that supplies Sardinian cork and Corsican operators from Portugal.
Prosecutor Gianni Caria has closed the investigations into the tax years from 2016 to 2019. There is talk of alleged tax evasion (about 800 thousand euros) and failure to pay VAT for 300 thousand euros . Satta, defended by the lawyer Angelo Merlini, declares: « I am amazed and shocked. I have already started the procedure provided by the Revenue Agency for a settlement of the dispute, the amounts of the alleged irregularities that are contested to me are drastically reduced, below the threshold of criminal relevance . Furthermore, with singular calculations my income has increased inexplicably. The result is a series of accusations that I believe to be unfounded ».
Satta is the recipient of a direct summons to trial.
