"Following the news of the Ministry of the Economy and Finance's commitment to allocate €6.3 million to ensure safety measures at the plant, the Ministry of Mitigation must now immediately convene a crisis meeting with the trade unions, with or without Rusal (the plant's Russian owner)." This was stated during this morning's meeting at the gates of the alumina plant by the regional secretaries of Filctem-CGIL, Emanuele Madeddu, Femca-CISL, Nino D'Orso, and Uiltec, Gigi Loi . The meeting, it was explained, was to report on the findings of last week's technical meeting, "at which worker representatives were not present."

Now the unions are calling for "the discussion to be brought back to the political-union table" and reiterate that the mobilization remains ongoing. The announced resources , they note while awaiting the minutes of the technical meeting, would only be sufficient for November and December, while in January the same financial crisis would recur at the company, which currently employs 189 workers at the Portovesme site (in the Sulcis region) on a rotational basis and with reduced staff numbers. "In short," the unions explained, "nothing is said about the prospect, and this is why clarification at the institutional level is needed."
