A suspended prison sentence of one and a half years for sexual assault, but the offense was classified as minor. This is the sentence handed down by the Court to Marshal Pasquale Smeraldo, a 53-year-old from Campania, former commander of the Decimomannu Carabinieri station, now transferred to another station. He is accused of trying to hug, touch, and kiss two women who had come to the station for help.

The accusations

The first complaint dates back to June 3, 2024, when a woman reportedly showed up at the station because her car tires had been slashed. After receiving the complaint, the station commander allegedly approached the young woman, sitting next to her and placing his hand on her lap. A week later, after taking her to his duty quarters, he allegedly attempted to kiss her. The second charge, however, concerns a similar incident that occurred in September 2023 with another woman, also in Decimomannu.
