A Fonnese Shepherd puppy was discovered with its head crushed in 2022. The death occurred in the Oschiri countryside, prompting the animal's owner, assisted by lawyer Arianna Denule, to file a lawsuit against a local businessman, accusing him of killing the dog.
The trial, which concluded in Sassari, saw Judge Valentina Nuvoli sentence the defendant to an eight-month suspended sentence, and ordered him to pay the civil plaintiff's legal costs, as well as a €2,000 fine.
During the preliminary investigation, the defendant's defense, represented by attorney Alessandra Paola Pittalis, contested the reconstruction of the incident, also relying on the expert's findings, who deemed the cause of death unproven. Indeed, the puppy, found on a narrow road, could have also been crushed by the hoof of a cow, whose farms are located nearby. For these reasons, the defense will appeal to the Court of Appeal.
