"The emergency rooms in Sardinia are close to collapse".

This was stated by Beniamino Susi, Head of Relations with the Regions of the Italian Society of Emergency and Urgency Medicine (Simeu).

Particularly critical is the situation in Nuoro, where a dozen doctors resigned at the San Francesco hospital due to the serious difficulty of the ward that has been under staff for some time.

But it is not only the island that worries: the criticalities are reported almost everywhere "due to the growth of patients, Covid and not, who are waiting for beds, due to the difficulty in hospitalizing in the medical and specialist departments, often saturated ", continues Susi, who heads the emergency department in Civitavecchia-Bracciano.

While in the first wave the accesses to the emergency rooms "had decreased by 30% for fear of infections, we are now back to pre-Covid levels but with the pandemic underway. This super influx is also due to the spread of flu and parainfluenza syndromes, but there are also many patients who come to us with severe Covid symptoms, already in partial oxygen deficiency and who need urgent hospitalization, sometimes even directly in intensive care. And, in addition to this, - he concludes - we are inundated with patients who come even for the banality of a white code ".

Criticalities are recorded in various Italian regions, "in particular Puglia, Campania and Lazio, where, especially in the winter season, historically there is an overcrowding in the Emergency and Urgency departments. Other regions are being added to these regions, with historically less critical situations than this. point of view, such as Piedmont, Lombardy and Emilia Romagna and regions that in recent weeks are under particular pressure from Covid infections, such as Friuli Venezia Giulia, Marche, Piedmont and Veneto ".
