The Municipality of Carbonia has declared a state of natural disaster following the fires in Bacu Abis on July 28 and Sirai on July 12.
The resolution is a necessary step to activate applications for state or regional funding to support affected citizens: they will be able to participate in the grant allocation process by submitting documentation of the damage suffered. At 3:30 PM on July 28, a fire started in the fields behind the Church of Santa Barbara.
The flames spread rapidly, almost touching the homes along Via Argentiera. A few weeks earlier, another fire had affected the city's access road, hitting Via Dalmazia, Sirai (the petrol station area), and Tanas, the SP2, affecting businesses and courtyards. In both cases, the timely intervention of the Fire Department, Forestry Corps, Forestas, Civil Protection volunteers, Local Police, and Carabinieri helped prevent further damage.
The air force (helicopters and Canadairs) are also in action. The resolutions are immediately enforceable.
