Five years and ten months. This was the sentence handed down today in court in Sassari against a 55-year-old man accused of setting fire to 5 hectares of land in the Li Buttangari area of the Sorso countryside in July 2020.
The testimony of a person who allegedly saw a smoking piece of paper being thrown from a car was crucial in the trial.
Judge Monia Adami also ordered the man to be permanently banned from holding public office, and referred the case to the prosecutor's office for investigation into perjury against a person involved in the alleged incidents. Prosecutor Giovanni Dore had requested a sentence of 8 years and 3 months in prison during the hearing. The man's defense was represented by Giovanni Policastro, a lawyer.
