Fertilia has high hopes for the newly formed National Network of Foundation Cities , which it sees not only as a tool for recovering and enhancing its heritage, but above all as an opportunity to develop new projects for regeneration, cultural promotion, and tourism. The signing of the deed of incorporation, which took place in Alghero as part of the town's 90th anniversary celebrations, now opens a phase in which the eleven participating municipalities will have to translate the agreement into concrete initiatives .

The Network was inaugurated by the Minister of Labor and Social Policies, Marina Calderone , who was present at the celebrations together with representatives of the administrations involved.

"Being born from work is the distinctive feature of these organizations," Calderone emphasized, adding that "the Foundation Cities represent the physical and social transformation of work."

Calderone also recalled the history of the Istrian-Dalmatian exiles and the story of his own family, forced to abandon Istria and rebuild their future elsewhere .

The agreement was signed by the municipalities of Alghero, Latina, Tresignana, Arborea, Carbonia, Guidonia Montecelio, Pomezia, Pontinia, Predappio, Sabaudia, and Torviscosa, spread across four regions. Latina will serve as the lead and coordinating institution. The goal is to network the urban and architectural heritage of the twentieth century, as well as the social and intangible heritage of the communities born from land reclamation, hard work, and, in many cases, encounters between populations of diverse origins. This is a path that Fertilia is particularly committed to.

"The Network born today allows us to look forward together, to enhance the urban, architectural, and cultural heritage of our cities and create new opportunities for the communities that live there," said Alghero Mayor Raimondo Cacciotto, noting that the 90th anniversary should be a starting point.

The celebrations also benefited from the support of the Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, through the Office for Anniversaries of National Interest of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. This support is part of a commitment already extended to other cities belonging to the Network, including Tresigallo and Guidonia Montecelio.

The ceremony was also attended by a delegation from Istria, led by Dyego Tuljak, demonstrating a heritage of rationalist architecture that transcends current national borders. Fertilia itself represents one of the most significant examples of the new network: founded in 1936 as part of the reclamation and transformation of the Nurra region, after the war it became a destination for exiles from Istria, Fiume, and Dalmatia. Today, the village seeks to transform this history into a lever for the future, using its identity, architecture, and memory as tools for valorization and new development opportunities.
