February 24 becomes "Donation and Transplant Day"

That tragedy of February 24, 2004 Mrs. Palmira Manca, mother of the heart surgeon Antonio Carta , will certainly never forget. But now that it represents an important date, for a moment his eyes that have been dull for too long shine. In recent days, the Regional Council unanimously approved the bill, with the aim of raising awareness of the dissemination of culture and the donation of blood and organs. And the date set as the “ Regional Day of Donation and Organ and Tissue Transplantation ” is precisely that of February 24th. The celebration falls in memory of the tragedy that occurred almost 19 years ago, when the members of the heart surgery team of the Brotzu hospital in Cagliari, formed by Antonio Carta, just 38 years old, Alessandro Ricchi , and Gianmarco Pinna , lost their lives in a plane crash, transporting the heart destined for a transplant from San Camillo in Rome. A glimmer of light thus also enters the house in via Sassari in Ghilarza , where time stopped on that dramatic day. Palmira Manca, 87 years old, is in mourning 24 hours a day. She cries continuously and just looking at Antonio's photos, for a moment, she hints at a smile.
