A group of priests from the Archdiocese of Oristano met in the presence of the Archbishop, Msgr. Roberto Carboni, to meet Father Paolo Contini and listen to his story linked to the complaint about the abuse suffered in the seminary of the Friars Minor Conventual in Oristano, during the years of his initial formation.
A meeting where Father Paolo had the opportunity to show documents which attest, according to what was learned from the priests present, a non-linear path and too many inconsistencies in the judicial process that involved him.
«As priests of the Archdiocese of Oristano we demonstrate full solidarity towards Father Paolo Contini and ask, with him and for him, a fair canonical trial – they declare -. We distance ourselves from anyone who would like to defend or minimize the responsibility of those who were guilty of the abuse. We express our decision to stand with the victim and to condemn, without any delay, all cases of pedophilia and abuse of minors and vulnerable people, such as all pedophiles and people who abuse in any context, be it family, civil or ecclesial, of the trust of the minors entrusted to them. Father Paolo's complaint is not a private matter, but it is a wound that pains and involves the entire Church and for this reason we demonstrate loudly against the crime of pedophilia and ask for justice for our brother who was the victim of it. We hope that the Conventual Franciscan Order will also take a firm position of condemnation on the matter."
