More than two years ago, the fatal accident on the Castelsardo-Tempio highway occurred, and now the suspect has been notified of the conclusion of the preliminary investigation. On April 12, 2023, in the La Peruledda area, a 66-year-old man from Torpè, driving a Renault Mégane, was allegedly struck by a waste truck driven by a 47-year-old man from Sassari.
The heavy vehicle, out of control, had crossed into the oncoming lane, pushing the French car over the guardrail and into the embankment below, causing, according to prosecutor Giovanni Porcheddu, the almost instant death of the elderly man. The truck had ended its journey by colliding with another car, whose driver sustained injuries that would take 10 days to heal.
According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the 47-year-old is facing manslaughter charges for allegedly committing several violations, such as speeding and applying the parking brake, causing the truck to spin. The Sassari native is represented by Simone Pisano, a lawyer, while Lorenzo Galisai is representing the civil parties.
