Two events to discover the present and imagine the future of design, fashion, and contemporary creativity. In July, IED Cagliari is organizing a double event showcasing the Institute's educational program and the talent of its new generations of designers. The calendar kicks off with an Open Day on Thursday, July 9th , dedicated to those who wish to learn more about IED Cagliari's program offerings and experience the Institute's teaching method firsthand. From 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the Viale Trento campus at Villa Satta—one of the city's best-preserved examples of Art Nouveau architecture—will host meetings with students, alumni, and course coordinators, hands-on workshops, laboratory visits, and one-on-one interviews with Admission Advisors for information on admissions, costs, and scholarships.
Participants will explore the four three-year programs in Fashion Design, Interior Design, Communication Design, and Media Design , through activities ranging from creative campaign design to visual brainstorming, from creating mood boards and interior design projects to exploring textile culture workshops and current collections. This will be an opportunity to experience firsthand an educational approach based on collaboration, experimentation, and ongoing dialogue between knowledge and disciplines. The Open Day will also be a unique opportunity to learn about course admissions.
The journey will conclude on Saturday, July 18 , when the Jewish Ghetto of Cagliari will be transformed into a large laboratory open to the city with "FUTURE MEMORIES - Safeguarding. Transforming. Reflowering," IED Cagliari's end-of-year exhibition-event. A night in which past and future look each other in the eye. One of the city's oldest and most stratified places will become a living, breathing archive. Installations, screenings, and productions from the courses in Interior Design (coordinated by Maurizio Bosa), Interactive Media Design (coordinated by Antonella Arca), Communication Design (coordinated by Marco Duò), and Fashion Design (coordinated by Nicola Frau) will take place.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 6:30 pm, marking the opening of the exhibition, which will be held in the Sala delle Mura, the Sala Cannoniera, and the Terrazza del Ghetto . At 7:00 pm, the fashion show "Crafting the Future – Archivio dell'ora" will take place. This show features the thesis collections of third-year Fashion Design students, the culmination of three years of research and experimentation, representing the first creative venture of a new generation of designers. Narente will be artistic director, with live accompaniment by a string quartet composed of Karen Hernandez, Olesya Emelyanenko, Sara Scalabrelli, and Martino Piroddi.
The exhibition will also feature "Archives of the Possible," an exhibition from the Interior Design program dedicated to the processes, materials, and visions that shape contemporary design, and "Nature's Intelligence," an exhibition from the Media Design program that explores the relationship between nature and interactive technologies through installations, videos, and digital experiments. The Communication program will also feature "Osmonauti: Portraits of Time," an exploration of Sardinian roots through a research journey that intertwines memory, territory, design, and photography. The evening will continue at 8:30 pm with a live DJ set by Marco Cabras and a food and drink area, transforming the Ghetto into a space for meeting, sharing, and celebrating the work completed by students during the academic year. This new cycle of activities at the Cagliari campus will also be supported by the new director, Diana Bertinetti.
