Journalist Silvio Cherchi, who for over thirty years was the voice and soul of Radio Bonaria, the station associated with the Mercedarian Order and the history of the Basilica, whose consecration marks the centenary this year, has died at the age of 64. He was a meticulous reporter, attentive to the events that affected Cagliari society, especially its cultural aspects.

Numerous interviews in the Radio Bonaria studios with priests, writers, musicians, and artists, always with a desire to understand and delve deeper, to look beyond the surface of facts and appearances. His final appearances coincided with the celebrations for the centennial of the Basilica's consecration. Radio Bonaria was his home, a place from which he made a concrete contribution to the growth of the entire journalistic community.

He believed until the end in information that was a real service for citizens.
