Carabinieri from the National Health Service (NAS) and inspectors from the Cagliari Local Health Authority (ASL) conducted a raid on the Businco Hospital, which has had no air conditioning since the beginning of the month. Staff (doctors, nurses, and healthcare assistants) and cancer patients spend their hours in wards where the air is unbreathable. Patients of all ages are forced to go there for appointments or chemotherapy because they have cancer.
The inspection comes after complaints and requests for intervention that, until now, had gone unanswered.
The air conditioning problem, according to a letter signed by 18 medical directors sent to the top management of Arnas (the company that owns Businco), dates back to the beginning of the month. The letter is dated June 18th, and already complaints were being made about unbearable conditions for workers and those receiving treatment. Since then, temperatures have risen steadily , and the situation on various floors of the hospital has become unbearable.
Yesterday, workers' safety representatives requested Spresal's intervention: this morning, ASL inspectors began checking the system, while the NAS (National Health Authority) examined the conditions patients were forced to endure for weeks.
