An explosion occurred this afternoon inside a restaurant in Olbia's Piazza Mercato. The shock wave tore out the restaurant's glass windows (temporarily closed to the public), sending debris flying across the square.
The Olbia Fire Brigade team immediately responded to the scene, carrying out emergency technical rescue operations and securing the area.
The explosion caused injuries and minor burns to two people who were inside the building for maintenance: they were assisted by 118 medical personnel and subsequently transported to the hospital for further checks.
The Fire Department cordoned off the area and verified there were no further structural hazards. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the event: the hypothesis is that the explosion originated from a gas cylinder. Carabinieri and Spresal (Special Operations Agency) were on site.
