The misadventure of Maki, a 14-year-old Maremmano crossbreed dog, ended happily after wandering off into the Molentargius Park area on the afternoon of August 26th.

Exhausted by the heat and fatigue, the animal initially sought shelter near the Palazzo Sali Scelti business center. Then, driven by thirst, it approached the dock ramp, where, due to the muddy bottom, it slipped into the water, unable to climb back up on its own.

The alarm was raised promptly thanks to video surveillance monitoring. A rescue operation was then launched, involving the collaboration of Forestry Corps officers, Park staff, and the Info Point.

Staff aboard several canoes first reached and approached the animal, attempting to calm her and guide her to a safer position . Once escorted to a corner of the dock, Maki was secured and then escorted by canoes to the slipway, where forest rangers recovered and rescued her.

The dog, exhausted but unharmed, was identified by scanning her microchip and consulting the Canine Registry. Her owner was thus quickly located.
