Some towns empty. And then there are those that expand. Desulo, the heart of Barbagia, has become a vibrant network of people, stories, dialects, and bonds that have spread throughout Sardinia, without ever truly breaking.
And yesterday, in this spirit in Cagliari, Esulesos was officially born, the association that brings together the desulesi living throughout the island, children of a mountain that still speaks with a living voice.
The baptism took place at the Sant'Eulalia Theater, packed with shared faces, stories, and roots. A community scattered but never dispersed, ready to reconnect with their hometown.
In fact, only eight municipalities in the whole of Sardinia – the promoters point out – do not have at least one resident from Desule.
"We want to be a bridge between Desulo and all the Desulesi on the island," declared President Alessandro Liori, "by offering meeting spaces where every young person can feel part of a living community."
An ambitious cultural and social project: craft workshops, Sardinian language courses, musical events, theater, environmental initiatives, and volunteer work. All with a clear goal: to make Desulo not just a physical place, but a cultural and identity center for Barbagia, even for those who now live far away.
Also present at the evening were well-known faces from the community : Antonangelo Liori, Giuseppe Frau, Antonello Liori, Gianpiero Liori and the representative of the Municipality of Desulo, Antonello Porcu.
What binds them is the desire to keep alive a sense of belonging, wherever they choose to live. The enthusiasm and participation in the event made it clear that Esulesos isn't starting from scratch, but from an already existing network, made up of family ties, shared memories, and a strong desire not to lose one another.
