Engine failure and fire on board: 30-meter yacht sinks in Porto Cervo
No consequences for the 14 people travelling on the vesselSunk in the waters off Porto Cervo, a yacht of approximately thirty meters has been lying on its side since yesterday evening at a depth of seven meters, between Cappuccini Island and Capo Ferro.
Recovered by the La Maddalena Port Authority after an operation lasting nearly three hours, the brand-new yacht lost buoyancy after an engine failure that caused a fire in the seals, causing water to enter the vessel.
There were fourteen people on board, twelve of whom were hosted by a vessel that was sailing nearby at the time of the accident, while the owner (Italian) and his friend waited on the yacht for the arrival of the patrol boat CP 870, which cast off at 6:30 pm to rescue the unfortunate people, who were then transported to Poltu Quatu.
The yacht has been secured, resting on the seabed to prevent it from sinking , and the owner has already contacted the company that will handle the removal of the wreck, using a pontoon of approximately two hundred tons.
The La Maddalena Port Authority is preparing a formal notice to restore the area and take any necessary action to avoid environmental damage as quickly as possible.
