They joined forces once again, Enel and Legambiente, for an ambitious goal: to clean up the busy green area adjacent to the Canale di San Bartolomeo, between the Unipol Domus and the old Sant'Elia, from waste. So on Wednesday morning, they put on gloves and took the tongs and the bags of the recycling in their hands.

"We want to raise awareness among citizens that waste must be disposed of in the appropriate containers and not along the canal, given that it is an area of great environmental value with great biodiversity, which must be safeguarded and protected," says Roberta Casciello, one of the 50 Enel volunteers involved. "It is always a pleasure to collaborate. The Legambiente volunteers then tell us how to differentiate the various types of waste that we collect."

"We need to show that together we can do more and that everyone has a responsibility and from this comes a collective advantage" adds Marta Battaglia, president of Legambiente Sardegna. "It's not just about restoring decorum to an important part of the city of Cagliari, but also starting a virtuous emulation: those who see us know they can do something".

In addition to simple cleaning, there is room for statistical detection: "In an area of 100 square meters we will monitor park litter: we will be able to say how many types of waste are found in that specific area. In this way we will give a quantitative signal to the Municipality and contribute to national monitoring". The result is extraordinary: 135 bags were filled, for a total of 1120 kg of waste collected. And several quintals of bulky waste were found, including a refrigerator, a scooter and car batteries: the road to civilization is still long.
