Peppino Puligheddu's escape has ended: hunted by the state police, he voluntarily turned himself in this morning in San Teodoro to the Flying Squad of the Nuoro Police Headquarters, with the assistance of the Olbia police station.
Puligheddu, 60, from Orgosolo, had been a fugitive since Wednesday and had been missing since Tuesday morning, when officers arrested him under a precautionary measure issued as part of an investigation by the Nuoro Prosecutor's Office that dismantled a gang specializing in robberies of cash-in-transit vans and ATM thefts . After more than 48 hours of intense searches, the man decided to turn himself in, ending his fugitive career.
The operation, coordinated by the Nuoro Prosecutor's Office, shed light on several robberies carried out throughout Sardinia. Among these, the most notable occurred on March 13th in Torpè, when a Mondialpol armored van was stolen, from which approximately €90,000 was stolen.
Investigators also link the gang to an attempted robbery of a Battistolli vehicle, which landed in Olbia and was headed toward the center of the island with a cargo estimated to be worth half a million euros.
Investigations are continuing to define in detail the roles and responsibilities of the various members of the criminal gang.
