Risk of collapse of the ridge, damaged furniture, darkness and dangers for pedestrians: the Municipality of Cagliari has decided to take action on Terrapieno and Viale Regina Elena, one of the most beautiful panoramic points of the city, and has approved a feasibility document that provides for an intervention of 19 million euros.

In relation to the Embankment , "the need for intervention to stabilize part of the slopes has been evident for some time. This intervention has already been implemented, in parts, over the past years. This aspect", we read in the documents, "is causing significant subsidence in large areas. On the one hand, widespread depressions can be seen, on the other, rotational translations of peripheral elements, in some cases even overturning and rolling of fencing and furnishing elements".

Looking at Viale Regina Elena «the intervention should continue with the redistribution of parking spaces, historically improperly built close to the trees in an anomalous way also in relation to the difficulty
of use. This is made possible by reviewing the design of the driveway of the entire avenue, already equipped with a double lane, one for each direction of traffic, and by moving the parking spaces towards the highest part, towards the multi-storey car park". But speed is also a danger: so the construction of raised pedestrian crossings is planned.

The objective is the "conservation of the architectural and cultural landscape asset, to be implemented through the restoration of the walk, the stabilization and containment of the slopes towards the valley, the care of the existing tree heritage through the drafting of specific analyses on the state of conservation, the analysis and assessment of the risk regarding the stability of the individual units present, the actions aimed at defining the actions necessary for the recovery of any pathological phenomena that may be found and finally of any replacements".

For the road, " the project should include the reorganization of the roundabout near the public gardens with a more effective definition of the entry and exit arms, a remodeling of the pedestrian walkways on the Via Badas side and the identification of parking spaces for the coaches, used almost all year round with a frequency of several weeks, to serve the tourist groups hosted by cruise ships, which, in large numbers, crowd the historic center, including the Castello district."

Furthermore, it is considered necessary to "create an adequate public lighting system, both for pedestrian walkways and for the vehicular part". But also to "create new water supply pipes, connections and technological arrangements relating to data transmission, security systems".
