Starting tomorrow, Monday, May 25th, the town of Elmas will be affected by a series of significant traffic changes due to both the ongoing celebrations in honor of its co-patron saint, Saint Catherine of Alexandria , and the launch of two separate maintenance and infrastructure projects. The local police command has issued specific ordinances to regulate traffic and ensure public safety at key points within the municipality.
The town is preparing for the final days of religious and civic celebrations. The procession of the statue of the Saint from the country church to the parish church is scheduled for Monday evening . The procession, which will begin at 7:30 PM until the end of the event, will result in a temporary suspension of traffic along a route that includes the Sanna sports field, Via Wright, Via Sulcitana, Via dell'Arma Azzurra, and Via Suella. On the same day, Via Padre Pibiri will be closed to traffic and parking, with forced removal from 4:00 PM to midnight, while Via Suella will be prohibited from 8:00 PM to midnight. The celebrations will continue on Tuesday 26 May with a further evening procession which, again starting at 7:30 pm, will pass through numerous streets of the town, including via Asquer di Flumini, via Boi, via Sestu and via Barsanti, ending in the churchyard of the parish church before the final greetings in Piazza Padre Pio.
Concurrent with the diversions for the processions, safety work will begin tomorrow on a stretch of Via Sulcitana , between the intersections of Via del Pino Solitario and Via Carloforte. The work, aimed at clearing some road subsidence, will continue until June 5th, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. In this area, the lane will be narrowed, and traffic will be regulated to alternating one-way traffic with the assistance of traffic controllers. This work will temporarily disrupt local public transportation from May 25th to 30th: CTM and ARST buses headed toward Cagliari will be diverted to Via Carloforte, Via Sant'Antioco, Via Don Sturzo, and Via Bronte, while buses headed toward Assemini will follow the reverse route, with temporary stops being set up at Via Lana and in front of the former Lidl store.
Finally, from Tuesday, May 26th, until June 19th, excavation work will move outside the town center for the installation of a new low-voltage underground power system on behalf of E-Distribuzione. Work will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. along the stretch of Via Caduti di Nassiriya located between the Via dei Trasvolatori roundabout, the Santa Caterina roundabout, and the new former Fas road. Lane restrictions and alternate one-way traffic, managed by traffic controllers during peak traffic periods, are also planned. The ordinance strictly prohibits the complete closure of the roadway so as not to block road connections. Authorities advise motorists to exercise extreme caution and obey the temporary signs that will be installed by the designated contractors.
