Long lines at Elmas Airport security again this morning. The photo shows a situation that, according to those who frequent the airport daily, has been repeated in recent days. And with even longer wait times.
The phenomenon occurs during the summer, during one of the busiest periods. Between August 7th and 16th, according to forecasts released by the management company Sogaer, approximately 250,000 passengers were expected at the Cagliari airport, including arrivals and departures, an increase compared to the same period last year. Around 1,550 aircraft movements were also expected during the August bank holiday. These figures would explain the recent disruption at Elmas, where many tourists are boarding flights to leave Sardinia after their holidays.
The increased flow of passengers has placed increased pressure on the airport's operations , especially during peak departure times. Lines at security checkpoints have forced passengers to allow longer to complete all procedures before boarding.
The situation also brings the issue of staffing during peak periods back into focus, as well as staff planning to address the seasonal increase in passengers and the implementation of measures to reduce waiting times at security checkpoints.
