"Bruno Contu must go to trial." Prosecutor Paolo Piras has appealed the judge's ruling, which, at a preliminary hearing in mid-October, dismissed the case against the health director of the AOU of Sassari.

He was charged with negligent epidemic and multiple manslaughter for the 11 COVID-19 deaths in the Cardiology department of the Santissima Annunziata hospital in March 2020. According to Deputy Prosecutor Contu, he failed to ensure the Cardiology medical staff "had the necessary hygiene and organizational conditions to contain biological risk."

The same magistrate is now contesting the ruling of preliminary hearing judge Gian Paolo Piana, believing that evidence that, in his opinion, would demonstrate the health director's responsibilities has been overlooked.

At the October hearing, the judge had ordered Fiorenzo Delogu, director of the Office of Hygiene and Public Health, to be sent to trial, while dismissing Giorgio Steri, general director of the ATS, as requested by the deputy prosecutor. They shared the same charges of negligent epidemic and multiple manslaughter.
