There was a real tragedy in a house on Via Aldo Moro in Maracalogonis, where a fire broke out at dawn today.
The tenants, a husband and wife, pensioners, were surprised by the smoke while they were sleeping , while debris from the fire was already falling from a nearby room.
The woman, 74 years old, noticed it and woke up her 80 year old husband: the two understood what was happening and had the strength and the presence of mind to reach the porch, also helped by a son who was sleeping in a room on the first floor of the house.
Then the alarm was raised to the Fire Brigade and 118. The rescue was immediate: it was 5.30 in the morning, it was dark and cold and the 115 men acted with extraordinary professionalism, looking after the two elderly spouses and bringing them to safety with a ladder truck.
An operation that lasted a few minutes, with the owner of the house who was then taken to the hospital for the beginning of intoxication. Now the man is fine, he could be discharged soon.
The man's wife, his son and another daughter who lives on the ground floor and whose house has not suffered any damage, are fine, despite the fright. The house of the two elderly spouses is uninhabitable.
The firefighters carried out an inspection securing the floor damaged by the flames. The Carabinieri of Maracalagonis and Quartu were also on site. The flames appear to have been caused by a short circuit in the kitchen of the house.
