The regional department for environmental protection , with responsibility for civil protection, " has activated all the operational structures necessary to deal with the drought emergency" , following the ongoing water crisis and the initiative of the president of the region, Alessandra Todde , who yesterday urged the government to declare a national state of emergency.

"President Todde's request highlights the priority that this administration gives to the protection of Sardinian communities affected by the ongoing serious water crisis. As a Department, we have taken action to ensure timely management with the Civil Protection, which assumes responsibility for coordination in the technical and operational response to the emergency ," says Councilor Rosanna Laconi.

"The current situation, characterized by a significant reduction in water resources and critical emergency levels in several strategic water systems, requires a timely and synergic response . The regional Civil Protection, in close collaboration with the Department, has already started technical and logistical support to the local authorities most affected. Following the Crisis Table convened on January 8, Abbanoa announced that, starting from January 27, water rationing measures will be adopted in the municipalities of Nuoro, Bolotana, Dorgali, Fonni, Gavoi, Lei, Lodine, Mamoiada, Oliena, Ollolai, Oniferi, Orgosolo, Orani, Orotelli, Ottana, Sarule and Silanus .

These measures provide for an alternating provision of 24 hours of opening followed by 24 hours of closing. The Department of Environmental Protection - concludes Laconi - is constantly monitoring the evolution of the crisis, ensuring political and strategic supervision, while the regional Civil Protection, with its highly qualified personnel, is deploying resources and skills to alleviate the inconvenience to the population".
