Listening and discussion are the key words to find solutions to the problem of drought in Sardinia , which affects farms in particular in the eastern area.
At the headquarters of the regional Agriculture Department, in Cagliari, Councilor Gian Franco Satta met with trade associations to discuss the next and imminent interventions, some of which were illustrated by Satta and will be included in the DL of budget change.
Among the measures announced also «the elimination of the roles of the Central Sardinia Reclamation Consortium in reference to all the agricultural companies whose water supply has been interrupted, an economic support program to partly compensate for the lost income and an extraordinary contribution intended for the aforementioned Consortium in order to carry out important and urgent interventions on the pipelines aimed at reducing losses and facilitating some connections necessary to mitigate some critical issues".
In recent weeks, the department had authorized the reclamation consortia which had requested it to use the resources necessary to guarantee water supplies to livestock farms, including through the use of tankers, and to have water intake points for the same purposes, operations to be reserved for companies that operate in territories not falling within the irrigation districts of the consortia (such as some localities in Ogliastra).
Furthermore , the Laore Agency was tasked with collecting reports from companies to estimate the damage caused by the drought . A first window closed on June 30th but it will soon be possible to make new reports.
Under discussion today is the possibility of immediately activating vouchers for the purchase of fodder and seeds .
«The inclusion of the provisions within the DL next to be examined by the Regional Council is a clear signal of the attention that the department and council dedicate to the drought problem, in accordance with the indications given by the Council through the two agendas approved unanimously in recent days – said Satta -. The Council will be put in a position to have and activate the necessary tools to enrich the text, giving a clear and strong signal regarding the available resources and any further measures to be used to mitigate the damage and support the agricultural companies located in all the affected areas from the crisis. I am sure that sensitivity to the problem will be unanimous and the response will be shared by all political forces."
