Yet another incident of wrong-way driving on Sardinia's expressways. The latest case occurred yesterday, Thursday, April 16, along the Sassari-Alghero highway .
A driver from Nuoro, while overtaking a truck on the Sassari-Alghero highway, suddenly found himself facing a car traveling in the opposite direction, just after a bend . The driver was an elderly man.
The scene was captured by the vehicle's dash cam. The Sassari-Alghero highway is a four-lane road, with two lanes in each direction separated by a central guard rail. For this reason, the wrong-way driver must have taken a slip road in the wrong direction, traveling several kilometers before the near-crash.
The driver from Nuoro was traveling between 70 and 80 kilometers per hour. Only a moderate speed allowed him to avoid a head-on collision that could have had devastating consequences. The driver immediately contacted emergency services to report the incident, but it is currently unknown whether the wrong-way driver has been located.
