The Carabinieri of the Operational and Radiomobile Nucleus of the Iglesias Company, with the support of the patrol of the local Domusnovas Station, arrested for attempted aggravated theft and receiving stolen goods a 36-year-old originally from Catania, domiciled in Iglesias, and a 27-year-old originally from Iglesias.

The military were engaged in a routine territorial control service when they were stopped by a passerby who reported two people intent on tampering with a parked vehicle. Arriving in via Mascagni, the Carabinieri ascertained that the two suspects were attempting to steal a Fiat Panda, owned by a 67-year-old.

At the sight of the police they ran away, abandoning the white Lancia Y they had arrived in, also stolen, but they were caught and stopped after about 400 meters. During the personal search, a screwdriver and a control unit for electronic coding of cars were found and seized.

The two arrested were then taken to the Court of Cagliari to be judged with a summary trial, as ordered by the competent Judicial Authority.
