It took 22,000 Lego bricks and two months of work to create the San Giovanni cave in Domusnovas in the form of a mosaic painting measuring 150 x 125 centimetres.

This is the 26th work by the artist from Cagliari, Maurizio Lampis , known also beyond the national borders for having built dioramas depicting the Trevi Fountain in Rome, Piazza San Marco in Venice and the cathedral of Trani. And these three works will be exhibited from this evening in Domusnovas, in the hall of the former Montegranatico in Piazza Matteotti , starting at 5:30 pm, when the mosaic of the San Giovanni cave commissioned by the municipality led by the mayor Isangela Mascia will be unveiled to the public.

The exhibition will remain open until May 18th thanks to the Karalisbrick brick museum which will move to the town in southern Sardinia for about a month.

«As always, no software was used, only photographic material to make it as real as possible - explains Lampis - It was not easy since it was a naturalistic project, but I am very satisfied with the result obtained».

The cave, now closed to traffic, was the only one in Italy to be crossed by a road that can also be traveled by car. This 850-meter long cavity is the longest of the seven natural caves in the world. Starting from June 2020, it became the first cave in the world entirely connected to an internet connection and covered by a wi-fi signal.
