It will become an oasis where various marine species will proliferate undisturbed, trawling by large fishing boats will be banned and, above all, there will never be room for any wind turbines : after a fourteen-year process, the Capo Spartivento Marine Protected Area is finally a reality.

The protected area, 12 square kilometers that extend in a stretch of sea between Capo Spartivento and the border with Pinus Village , was made official in recent days with the publication in the Official Journal of the decree approved in December 2023 by the Ministry of the Environment.

"The Marine Protected Area represents a great achievement for our community and for the environment," says the mayor of Domus de Maria, Maria Concetta Spada. " Thanks to this tool, we will be able to protect our sea, give life to new forms of sustainable tourism and we will have the strength to protect ourselves from any form of speculation ."
