The Carabinieri intervened yesterday in Domus De Maria , alerted by an important discovery on one of the beaches along the coast.
The incessant erosive action of the waves generated by the bad weather has caused two tombs and several archaeological finds to resurface from the sand at Sa Colonia.
From initial assessments, the remains would appear to likely date back to the Phoenician era , once again testifying to the historical richness that characterises the coast of Southern Sardinia.
Staff from the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts, and Landscape arrived on site to conduct an initial technical inspection and assess the state of conservation of the artifacts. Following the completion of the inspections, the site was cordoned off and closed to all access, pending the arrival of specialized personnel who, in the coming days, will begin the delicate scientific excavation and recovery operations of the artifacts to ensure their conservation and study.
