The cleanup of an area of the Selene forest in Lanusei has begun following numerous cases of animal poisoning reported in recent weeks . The toll is currently dramatic : six deaths , three dogs and three cats. Three other dogs, however, were saved thanks to the timely intervention of veterinarians .

The reports , all substantiated by the ASL (Local Health Authority) Veterinary Service and local clinics, were concentrated in a small but highly frequented area, near accommodation and sports facilities . This area is home to the Selene Archaeological Park, hiking trails, a playground, a bar/restaurant/pizzeria, and numerous picnic areas.

Given the severity and frequency of the incidents, the Anti-Poison Dog Unit of the Forestry and Environmental Protection Corps intervened this morning to clean up the area. At the same time, the Lanusei Forestry Corps informed the Public Prosecutor's Office, which will shortly receive a report on the investigation.

Tissue and organ samples were taken from the deceased animals and sent to the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Sardinia . The analysis will help identify the substances used in the poisoned baits. The reports, expected in the coming days, could provide crucial information for the investigation being conducted by the Environmental and Forestry Police Investigative Unit of the CFVA in Lanusei.
