On April 3, a delegation of mayors of the Union of Municipalities of Anglona represented by President Giovanni Filiziu, Giovanni Ligios and Pietro Carbini, mayors of Perfugas, Osilo and Santa Maria Coghinas respectively, was enthusiastically welcomed in the sumptuous headquarters of the City of Madrid by Professor Emilio Del Rio, Director General of the Libraries, Archives and Museums of Madrid, as well as a well-known popularizer of classical Latin culture in Spain. The project “Lands of Anglona” that the Union of Municipalities of Anglona has embraced and supported, after having stopped in Basilicata and Genoa, has finally landed in Madrid. «There will be a new narration of the common history, the one that links Anglona to Madrid and Madrid to Anglona» underlined Giovanni Ligios who, in his role as former president of the Union, was the first to believe in the project and was able to represent it well together with Pietro Carbini and Giovanni Filiziu. «I am of the opinion that this unpublished story should be told both in Madrid and in Anglona, also with the help of augmented reality, finding in the historical bond the opportunity for not only cultural, but also commercial relations».
Consul Cristina Ricci presented the project to a meticulously organized working table: also present were the attaché and the Italian Embassy in Madrid Teodora Danisi, the director of International Relations of the City of Madrid Ricardo Iglesias, the Secretary General of Museums and Exhibitions, José Bonifacio Bermejo, the Secretary General of Libraries and Archives Carmen Hervàs. "It is fate - commented Emilio del Rio - that the project reaches us precisely at this juncture, in which the City of Madrid is proceeding with the creation of a museum that, by chance, concerns Maria Josefa Alonso Pimentel, Countess of Benavente, Duchess of Gandia, Duchess of Osuna, first princess of Anglona." And the famous Pedro Alcantara Tellez Giron Prince of Anglona was her son.
The museum will be inaugurated in a year and will thus be able to include a forgotten and buried chapter of history. The Union of Municipalities of Anglona is among the guests. In the meantime, it is already thinking about receiving the Madrid delegation in Sardinia, perhaps welcoming them with the publication of a popular work on “The Princes of Anglona”, a compelling story that deserves to be revealed and spread. In the historic center of Madrid, right on the site where the first settlements of the city were identified, the street Calle del Principe de Anglona winds, at the end of which stands the Palacio del Principe de Anglona with its small hidden garden, a true oasis of peace. Who lived there until his death in 1851 is learned from an information panel curated by the Ayuntamento de Madrid, the Municipality of Madrid, which takes care of its historical memory. He was Pedro de Alcantara Tellez Giron, Marques de Javalquinto, Lieutenant General of the Royal Army, Prince of Anglona.
